September is here.  Minnesotans know that the start of fall means enjoying the last few weeks of shorts weather and unfortunately prepping for our cold winter. 1. Age of your furnace

The age of your furnace is a good indicator that you may need a repair. Don’t know the age of your furnace? Check the label on your furnace with the serial number. The age will be listed there. If your furnace is nearing the 15 year mark, you may need a repair or tune up to ensure your furnace can keep your home warm and cozy all winter long.

2. Strange Noises

Sign number 2 that your may need some repair work done is a strange noise or two. We recommend turning on your furnace now for a few minutes to make sure it is in working order before the cold weather hits.  During your September furnace test, listen for any strange noises like knocking or rattling. Once you notice a strange noise, make an appointment for a technician to take a peek.

3. Color of Your Burner Flame

When running your test, take a peek at your burner flame in the furnace. Blue is a healthy color. If your flame looks yellow, this could be a sign of carbon monoxide and a sign that you should call a professional.

4. Cold Air

If your systems is blowing cold air when your furnace is turned on is not a good sign. This could be an indicator that something is wrong. Be sure to get this checked out.

5. Unusual Amount of Dust

If you notice an unusual amount of dust – especially after replacing your furnace filter – it may be time for a check up. Large amounts of dust in your air vents can indicate a problem with your furnace’s  efficiency.

6. Increased Heating Bills

Are you noticing an increase in the cost of heating your home? This may be a sign your furnace needs repair.

Once you notice any of these signs, it may be time to schedule an appointment with a professional technician who can diagnose your furnace repair needs.
